Int’l airport opens its doors in Somalia

BOSSASO, Somalia, January 8, 2016 (Garowe Online)- Somalia leaders have officially inaugurated a revamped international airport in the Northeastern Port city of Bossaso on Friday, Garowe Online reports.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud alongside Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has officially opened the long-awaited ribbon-cutting ceremony under a tight security.

Puntland ex-President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole, former Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Geddi, Italian Ambassador to Somalia Michele Fabrezio and Chinese Ambassador Wei Hongtian , presidential entourages, VIPs and other top officials attended the flagship event held at the airport overlooking the Red Sea.

Commercial carriers have started making takeoff on the runway spanning by perches of Golis Mountain Ranges.

Somali leaders and politicians underlined Puntland’s leap in transport infrastructure, a key initiatives poised to plug the country’s ailing economy with millions.

Dubbed ‘historic’, the inauguration drew hundreds clad in national and Puntland flags.

4.5 ahead of Kismayo forum

Former Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole applauded Bossaso airport opening as ‘national asset’ for all Somalis, while also touching on the relevance of 4.5 power sharing quota in 2016 electoral process.

He said, Bossaso airport is an economic emblem for Somali people everywhere.

Puntlad ex-leader decried 4.5 representation as ‘illegal’ formula that never suits multifaceted interests of constituent units.

Somali political leaders are again scheduled to gather for detailed framework of possible hybrid in 2016 when the mandate of current government comes to an end.
