GALGALA, Somalia Feb 13, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Puntland army troops killed five Al Shabaab militants in a raid on Madashon hotbed according to officials on Friday, Garowe Online reports.

Sources within Puntland army told Garowe Online that a militant was also captured alive during the deadly assault on Madashon, 23km west of rugged terrain of Galgala where the north eastern state has been battling Al Shabaab fighters since mid-2010.

Three Puntland soldiers died in the assault while seven others have been admitted to Bossaso General hospital for medical treatment.

The raid follows a series of cleanup operations by Puntland Defence Forces( PDFs) in hideouts along Golis Mountain ranges and Galgala.

Al Shabaab militants honed hit-and-run attacks in the Gulf of Aden Port city of Bossaso, targeting Deputy Police Commander-in-Chief Gen. Mohiyadin Ahmed Musse in the latest terror attack.

Intense military campaign launched by Somali government forces and AU peacekeepers in central and southern Somalia is believed to have forced Al Shabaab remnants to flee into the stable state.

Al though Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali earlier in January claimed victory against militants, analysts say Al Shabaab presents tougher challenge to stability than ever.

Puntland government in northern Somalia launched first assaults on Al Shabaab hideouts in Gagala area and along Golis Mountain Ranges in mid-2010.

Ever Since, Al Shabaab has been opting for guerilla warfare in the restive Gagala, some 50km southwest of the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso.

Despite intense military campaign in south-central regions, fugitive Al
Shabaab fighters continue to infiltrate the stable state according to intelligence briefings.
