​Somalia: Former BBC journalist Ahmed Kismayo dies in India

HYDERABAD, India - Former BBC Somali Service correspondent, Ahmed Mohamed Ali known as (Ahmed Kismayo) has died in Hyderabad of India on Wednesday, following an illness, Garowe Online reports.

Late Ahmed Kismayo passed away in his hotel room in Hyderabad, where his has been for medical treatment after he was diagnosed with throat complications, according to his family.

The media family and Puntland officials have condoled on the death of the respected broadcaster, who joined BBC Somali service in 1999, as a reporter in the Somalia's northeastern semi-autonomous region.

Legendary Ahmed Kismayo began his journalistic career in 1980, and worked for the state-run Radio Mogadishu. He became Puntland TV director in 2013. 

In 2016, the veteran journalist has resigned as the chairman of Puntland Electoral Commission (PEC ) after several months in office over personal reason.
