Somalia: Puntland ex-president calls for stability after Galkayo clashes

GAROWE, Somalia, November 30, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Former President of Somalia’s Northeastern State of Puntland, Abdirahman Mohamed Farole has called on Puntland and Galmudug to bring deadly standoff to an end on Monday, Garowe Online reports.
In a press briefing in Puntland capital, Garowe, Farole urged Federal Government of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to personally step in, and play a visible role in the ongoing mediation efforts due to murky matters.
He said, warring parties could curb further bloodshed at the beginning, asking political leaders led by the Prime Minister not to treat ‘bone of contention’ of the conflict with a great deal of caution.
“[Delegations] mediating between [Puntland and Galmudug] should have a bold look into the contentious points giving rise to the dispute,” former Puntland leader had remarked before reporters.
A convoy carrying Puntland and Jubaland Presidents headed for Galkayo by Monday.
Galmudug and Puntland leaders—Abdiweli Mohamed Ali and Abdikarin Hussein Gulled—are both poised to roundtable over hostility in the presence of Somali political leaders.
