Somalia: Puntland lawmaker dies in road crash in Bari region

BOSASO, Puntland - A newly-elected young legislator died in a road mishap in Somalia's southeastern state of Puntland on Wednesday evening, Garowe Online reports.

The deceased lawmaker named Mohamed Farah Mire was elected from the Bari region constituency in the recently held Assembly elections in the Federal State.

The road accident occurred as he was traveling to Bosaso, Puntland's commercial city from Wa'iye district in the northeastern region, located on the Gulf of Aden, according to an eyewitness.

The accident occurred when the late MP's vehicle was run over by a heavy truck coming from the opposite direction of the main street between Bosaso and Wa'iye.

The legislator's driver sustained slight wounds in the tragic. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The body of the parliamentarian is expected to be buried in his hometown on Thursday.
