Somalia: Puntland President tours Marine Force base

BOSSASO, Somalia Dec 1, 2014 (Garowe Online) The President of Somalia’s Puntland Government Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has toured Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) base in the outskirts of the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

President Ali’s delegation including Minister of Ports and Marine Trasport Abdullahi Jama Salah, Aviation Minister Hassan Haji Saed, Puntland Army Commander-in-Chief Gen. Saed Mohamed Hirsi (Saed Dhere) and Deputy Police Commander Mohayadin Ahmed Musse was received by PMPF Commander Abdirizak Farah Qare.

Divisions from anti piracy taskforce staged guard of honor a day after Puntland leader held talks with NATO officials on military vessel off the coast of Somalia.

The professional security unit operating in territorial waters was set up in 2010 following the enaction of Somalia's first-ever Anti-Piracy Law. Puntland Marine Force has bases along Puntland coast and has been renowned for actively fighting against piracy, smuggling activities, and illegal fishing.
