Somalia: Puntland VP observes Eid Al Fitr prayers in Garowe

GAROWE, Somalia-Puntland Vice President Abdihakin Abdullahi Haji Omar has joined hundreds of residents for Eid Al Fitr prayers in the state capital of Garowe on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports. 

Cabinet members, parliamentarians, Nugal governor, Garowe mayor, traditional leaders and Islamic scholars prayed alongside the Vice President at Mire Aware football stadium where worshipers in festive mood flocked early in the morning.  

The prayers featured sermons, and speeches on the prevailing political matters besetting the northeastern state.  

Cleric Mohamud Aw Yusuf urged people to offer the poor and the needy a generous hand on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.  

Well-known Puntland elder Islam Isse Islam Mohamed greeted worshipers on Eid, praying for peace and unity among communities.  

Islam Isse called for immediate cessation of hostilities between two warring clans in northern Sool region. 

Puntland Vice President Amey echoed a similar call, asking the two brotherly clans to choose peace over fighting.  

Eid Al Fitr festivity on Wednesday marked the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan.
