Somalia: Radio Garowe fundraising for Mogadishu victims

GAROWE, Puntland - The independently-owned Radio Garowe (RG), the sister publication of Garowe Online launched a fundraising campaign for Mogadishu truck bombing victims, Garowe Online reports.

The local community radio station based in Garowe, the administrative capital of Somalia's northeastern semi-autonomous Puntland region is airing special programs aimed at collecting money from the audience via shortwave 89.5 FM.

RG's Listeners across Nugal province are well contributing to the Mogadishu victims support initiative by taking part the radio program, sending the electronic cash through their mobile phones.

The managing director of Radio Garowe, Ahmed Awil Jama, said the move is the latest of series of live show humanitarian programs it has been doing in the past few years to the drought-hit communities.

"We opened bank accounts for the public to send money, also our team is collecting other assistance from the people in Nugal region, in a show of solidarity with their brothers in Mogadishu," Jama said.

Continuing, RG director added the program will continue until current situation ends, calling on the people to join in the efforts to help people wounded by Saturday's truck bomb blast at KM5 junction.

Radio Garowe which is one of the most popular stations in Puntland is committed to play a part in the public efforts to help hundreds of civilians wounded in Oct 14 explosion in the capital, he revealed.
