Somalia Telecom exec shot dead in Galkayo

GALKAYO, Somalia-A pistol-wielding middle-aged man has shot dead the General Manager of Telecommunications Company Somtel in central Galkayo city, officials have confirmed to Garowe Online. 

Late Omar Mohamed Abdulle was killed in front of a mosque shortly after dusk prayers according to Galkayo Mayor Abdiasis Jama Nugal. 

“He was gunned down by an assailant in front of the mosque after dusk prayers. 

The killing is really sad, and I share the pain with his bereaved family,” said Galkayo mayor.  

The unidentified killer reportedly fled to Galmudug-controlled Barahley neighborhood.  

The high ranking Puntland official noted that security situation is improving in Galkayo but such crimes could not be prevented. 

Located at gateway to south-central regions plagued by chronic insecurity, Galkayo witnessed similar targeted assassinations over the last few years.
