GALKAYO, Somalia-Unidentified assailants have shot and killed a regional peace activist and the head of Mudug Women Association Dhudi Yusuf Adan in central Galkayo town on Wednesday afternoon, Garowe Online reports.

Adan was gunned down home before dusk prayers in Galkayo’s Garsoor neighborhood, witnesses and police have confirmed.

The attackers armed with pistols fled right away after the targeted assassination.

Puntland security forces afterwards arrived on the scene, conducting a search operation nearby in pursuit of killers.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the murder, though Al Shabaab is infamous for such assassinations.

Deputy Mudug Governor Ahmed Musse Nura Yare told the media that late Dhudi will forever be remembered for her role in campaigning against Al Shabaab terrorism.

The murdered Somali woman peace activist was an active member with committees on Mudug Development Fund, and army welfare.

Galkayo, located at Puntland’s southern gate, witnessed a series of targeted killings and bomb attacks, with deadliest in recent years being suicide bombing that claimed six people on March 31.
