Somalia: 10 killed as car bomb detonated at cafe in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia Oct 12,2014 (Garowe Online)-  At least 10 people were killed and 15 others were wounded after a car packed with explosives was detonated at a popular café in the Somali capital on Sunday evening, Garowe Online reports.

The explosion took place at Aroma cafe in the center of the Somali capital as customers sat outside, savoring coffee and chatting with their respective friends. The blast turned the serene premises into chaotic and bloody scenes.

Ambulances rushed the wounded into the hospitals in the city.

The latest attack comes after a period of calm in Mogadishu which has experienced series of attack by the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabab group which is trying to impose a strict interpretation of sharia into the horn of Africa nation.

Dealing with significant losses, including the killing of their leader Ahmed Abdi Godane, and the seizure of the group's most important bastion, Al-Shabab is trying to reorganize; an attempt that analysts predict would take years for the group to come back in a good shape.

The latest attack comes barely few hours after gunmen have shot and seriously wounded a Somali journalist in Mogadishu on early Sunday, the third attack on media workers in Somalia.

18 journalists have been killed in Mogadishu last year which served the worst year for the beleaguered Somali media.

No group has immediately claimed the responsibility for both attacks.
