MOGADISHU, Somalia - A school headmaster was targeted by Al-Shabaab militants on Tuesday, authorities said, just a few days after the government announced the death of close to 225 terrorists across the federal republic of Somalia.

Eyewitnesses said that the High School administrator was killed in an explosion believed to be from a device attached to his car in the vicinity of Dayniile district, Mogadishu in Somalia, but the reason behind the assassination is not yet known.

The victim has been identified as Dahir Hassan Toohow known as Dahir Digdigle. He was the principal of Dayniile School according to reports. The explosion occurred near the district headquarters in Dayniile.

Since then, the Al-Shabaab militant group has claimed responsibility for the killing of Dahir Digdigle. The group’s media claimed the victim was one of the delegates involved in the election of MPs in Galmudug state. Al-Shabaab has been assassinating people involved in Somalia elections.

Besides innocent civilians and top government officials, the group has been targeting security forces across the country. Over the weekend, joint military operations within Lower and Middle Shabelle left over 225 Al-Shabaab militants dead.

The incident comes hours after US ambassador to Somalia Larry Andre termed the group dangerous, adding that it has intensified activities in Somalia due to ongoing elections in the country. The country is yet to conclude polls.
