MOGADISHU, Somalia - Police in Somalia say the death toll from Saturday's double explosions in Mogadishu has climbed to 11 while more than 20 others had been injured, Garowe Online reports.

General Bashir Abdi Mohamed, Somali police boss, told reporters during a press conference in the capital that both car bomb blasts targeted two police security check points near the parliament headquarters and airport.

The UN mission in Somalia condemned Saturday's deadly attacks in Mogadishu, saying no political agenda can be served by acts of terrorism. Turkey has also slammed the twin bombings in the capital.

Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attacks which were the deadliest in this month.

Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Khaire has toured the sites of the blasts, Sayidka and KM4 junctions on Saturday evening and lauded security forces for their bravery and courage to avert the bomb attacks.

Despite losing ground, the militants had stepped up their assault against the government and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) bases across south and central parts of the Horn of Africa nation.
