MOGADISHU, Somalia - Dozens of Al-Shabaab militants have been killed following multiple operations in the country, as Somalia prepares for the second and perhaps final assault of operations against the militants, who have been terrorizing innocent civilians and security forces.

At a press briefing recently, Gen. Abdullahi Ali Anod, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, announced that the SNA has conducted several successful operations against Al-Shabab terrorists in the Bulo-Fulay Bay region over the past few days.

According to him, the operations by the army eliminated dozens of Al-Shabab militants, including several leaders. The army also targeted administrative offices, an extortion checkpoint, and a garage used by the terrorists as an explosive weapons depot, state media reports.

Additionally, a weapons depot in the Galhareri Galgadud region was destroyed. Also targeted was Run-Nirgod, a town within the Middle Shabelle region, where several militants were killed in the coordinated operations against Al-Shabaab.

Anod also mentioned that the SNA conducted an operation against Al-Shabab in a large area under Run-nirgod Middle Shabelle to maintain security. The spokesman urged civilians to stay away from terrorist hideout positions targeted by the SNA to avoid harm.

The second phase of operations against Al-Shabaab will be activated in Jubaland and Southwest states, with the military terming it Black Lion Mission. Already, members of the Somali National Army have been mobilized ahead of the operations which will see international partners participate.

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] and the US Africa Command have been integral in the operations. The Somali National Army has been adequately equipped to face the militants with members of the international community also training them basic military skills.
