Egypt's El-Sisi, France's Macron Discuss Somalia Security in Phone Call

CAIRO — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation to discuss security issues in Somalia, the Egyptian presidency said on Saturday.

El-Sisi underscored the intrinsic connection between the stability of the Horn of Africa and Egypt's own national security.

He emphasized Egypt's commitment to aiding Somalia in achieving peace and stability, either through direct bilateral efforts or by contributing to the African Union's peacekeeping initiatives at Somalia's behest.

The leaders also reviewed a recent accord mediated by Turkey between Ethiopia and Somalia, with El-Sisi expressing optimism about its potential to foster regional security while adhering to international legal standards.

Additionally, the phone call covered the broader scope of Egypt-France relations, with both presidents agreeing to bolster cooperation, focusing particularly on economic and investment opportunities.
