KISMAYO, Somalia — Jubaland state has called for dialogue with the Somali federal government to resolve the ongoing political standoff, a regional minister announced Monday.

The Federal State, which has been at odds with Mogadishu over various issues including electoral processes and regional autonomy, seeks to mend ties and find a peaceful resolution to the disputes that have escalated tensions between the two administrations.

"Jubaland is ready for dialogue to address the political differences and ensure stability for our people," said Jubaland security minister General Dhumaal.

The call for dialogue comes amid reports of increased military presence and recent skirmishes, highlighting the urgency to de-escalate the situation. The Somali government has not yet responded to the proposal for talks.

The standoff is part of broader challenges within Somalia's federal system where regional states often clash with the central government over power and resource sharing as well as constitutional affairs and election model.
