New Somalia Ambassador presents credentials to Obama

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 18, 2015 (Garowe Online)-New Somali Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad has presented letter of credence to US President Barack Obama during credentialing ceremony in the Oval House of the White House late on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.
The credentialing of Awad, who served with United Nations mission to Sudan comes less than two weeks after the department of state announced the commencement of its diplomatic operations within US embassy in neighboring Kenya.
On September 8, State Department unveiled that Charge d’Affaires will lead Somalia mission until next ambassador is appointed by the President.
On May 5, the US Secretary of State John Kerry paid a few and far between visit to Mogadishu.
The traditional ceremony at the White House has marked the beginning of Somali Ambassador’s service in Washington.
Awad replaces Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke who held the post as the first Somali Ambassador to the U.S. in more than two decades.
