Somali politicians threatened with accountability

GALKAYO, Somalia, December 2, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)’s Special Envoy to Somalia, Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Afey told Somali political leaders to either live up to promises or vacate posts, Garowe Online reports.
In a speech he delivered in ceasefire deal ceremony in central Somalia town of Galkayo, Ambassador Afey advised Somali politicians to keep clear of hostility and anything that could finally spawn conflicts in the wake of deadly Galkayo fighting over the last two weeks.
“I don’t personally see today ‘joyful’, I deem it ‘unfortunate day’ that needs to never stand discussed,” Afey said in his dramatic remarks.
Continuing, IGAD envoy said: “If you cannot be leaders, give chance to the people. Otherwise, be charismatic ones, shun turning people against each other. You will not earn paradise for this; I will swear by Allah, you should end up in hellfire”.
The top diplomat whose support is unlikely to be weaned off threatened irresponsible politicians with accountability for their crimes.
“From now on, nobody will indulge in massacre with impunity. If there is no accountability, slaughter will continue unabated,” warned Afey.
Galkayo peace deal Wednesday culminated in murky matters, with intellectuals calling for impartial probe into sporadic fighting.
