Somali President Honors Boxer Ramla Ali for Representing Nation on Global Stage

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday welcomed international boxing star Ramla Ali to the presidential palace in Mogadishu, honoring her for her efforts in representing Somalia in global sports competitions.

During the meeting, the president praised Ali’s perseverance and commitment to flying the Somali flag in international boxing arenas, describing her as a symbol of inspiration and national unity for the Somali people.

“Ramla Ali represents the strength, resilience, and pride of our nation,” President Mohamud said, according to a statement from the presidency.

In recognition of her achievements, the president awarded Ali a certificate of honor, commending her for the positive image she has brought to Somalia and her role in inspiring the country’s youth and promoting sports development.

Ali, who was born in Somalia and raised in the UK, became the first Somali boxer to compete in the Olympics and has since gained global recognition for both her athletic career and her advocacy work.
