DEEFOW, Somalia Jan 21, 2015 (Garowe Online)-At least 20 people have been confirmed dead after two clan militias clashed in deadly battle in Hiraan region village of Deefow of central Somalia, Garowe Online reports.

Medics at Beledweyne General Hospital and local clan elders said the fierce clashes left 20 people dead and scores wounded.

On Wednesday, local reports disclosed that another fighting is looming over the ownership of farmland in the restive areas.

Somali government forces have not deployed in the areas where the fighting took place on Tuesday and tensions remain high, sources added.

A ceasefire brokered by elders from the two clans was broken last month following similar armed confrontations.

Hiraan, located in central Somalia has been an epicenter for recurrent inter-clan clashes.

African Union peacekeepers and Somali forces dislodged the now-beleaguered Al Shabaab militants from strategic Hiraan region in December 2011.
