​Somalia: An elder involved in the electoral process killed in Beledweyne

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia- Suspected al-Shabaab assassins have shot and killed a prominent traditional elder in southern Somalia on Tuesday night, Garowe Online reports.

Mustaf Mohamed Dhicisow has been gunned down at his shop located at busy marketplace in Howlwadag village, west of Beledweyne town, the regional capital of Hiiraan region.

Late Dhicisow, was among the electoral college during the past parliamentary election that held in the Hirshabelle and killed by two pistol-wielding men.

Eyewitnesses said the elder was accosted by two attackers who drew their pistols, shot him on the head at close range and fled the crime scene immediately.

Somali security forces sealed off the area near the crime scene and launched manhunt mission for the suspects who are reported to have fled the area following the shooting.

Police officials said that they are investigating the murder.

No group has claimed responsibility for the killing, which was the latest in string of assassinations against elders involved in electing lawmakers of the new Somali Federal Parliament.
