Somalia and U.S. discuss Horn of Africa stability and new cooperation

MOGADISHU, Somalia (Garowe Online) — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdisalam Abdi Ali met with Massad Boulos, senior adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump on Arab and African affairs, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and regional security.

The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between Somalia and the United States, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

According to Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the officials discussed enhancing security cooperation, efforts to combat terrorism, and opportunities to expand economic partnerships and investment.

The two sides also exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa, including security concerns in the Red Sea and the role of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) in supporting Somalia’s security priorities.

Somalia and the United States reiterated their commitment to promoting regional peace and stability while continuing cooperation aimed at strengthening Somalia’s security institutions and supporting its long-term development goals.

The meeting comes as Somalia and its international partners continue efforts to strengthen security institutions, counter armed militant groups, and encourage greater economic engagement and investment in the country.
