​Somalia: Blast killed more than ten, says government official

MOGADISHU, Somalia- A suicide car bombing targeting Somalia's main port in Mogadishu has caused casualties and destruction to nearby buildings on Sunday morning, Garowe Online reports. 

The spokesman for Banadir region, Abdifdatah Omar Halane, told local media that the blast killed more than 10 people and wounded dozens more.

The Somali government is carrying out probe into the attack, which caused by an explosives-laden vehicle, added Halane.

He denied that the explosion has killed Somali government soldiers and said more details will emerge following ongoing investigations.

On the other hand, the Police Commissioner of Banadir region has confirmed the suicide bombing has killed 11 people in the capital.

However, the blast was reported to cause huge  damages to the port's custom office and killed more than dozens, according to eyewitness.

The attack occurred at early hours of Sunday, as the port workers were entering the facility. 

Mogadishu' seaport is managed by Turkish-based company and awarded the contract to develop Somalia's main seaport.

Al Qaida-linked Al Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for today's attack and said it killed more than 30 people.
