Somalia condemns Nairobi hotel attack; 2 Somalis among the dead

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned the deadly attack on an upscale hotel complex in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

The attack which was claimed by al-Shabab began with explosions at the gates of the DusitD2 compound, which includes a 101-room hotel, restaurant and office buildings housing local and international companies.

Kenyan police said one of the attackers detonated himself while the remaining four others stormed the hotel building, where they shot dead several people and fought off the security forces.

Flames and plumes of black thick smoke billowed into the sky from the parking lot where several cars in a parking lot were ablaze shortly after the explosions, said the witnesses.

In a statement, Somalia’s foreign ministry said the Nairobi hotel attack once again reveals the hideous face of terrorism and expressed its solidarity with Kenya and those affected.

At least 14 people, including two Somali nationals, were killed in the attack, which comes exactly three years after El-Adde raid that left more than 100 Kenyan soldiers dead.

CCTV captured the faces of attackers of the devastating Tuesday terror attack on Dusit Complex on 14 Riverside Drive. The attackers had made their way to the hotel. 

Al-Shabab vowed retribution against Kenya for sending troops to Somalia in 2011 who are now part of the 22,000 African Union Missin, known as [AMISOM].
