Somalia: Deputy Minister Flags Al-Shabaab Sympathizers, Calls for Unity

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdirahman Al-Adalah, sounded the alarm today over a faction within the community that is allegedly in cahoots with the terrorist group Al-Shabaab. The revelation came during a comprehensive press briefing on the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab and the current state of troops engaged in front-line combat.

Al-Adalah emphasized that Al-Shabaab's weakening power has led them to sow division within the community. "If Al-Shabaab had the strength to amass support, there would be no need for them to engage in battle for the opening of El-Bur," said the Deputy Minister.

Adding his voice to the discourse, MP Abdirahman Odowa underscored the inappropriateness of exploiting the war on terror for political gains. "This is a time when we should all stand united behind our army," Odowa stated.

The statements from both government officials come against the backdrop of recent criticisms from some quarters concerning the government's strategy in combatting Al-Shabaab. These criticisms were particularly vocal following the terror attack in the Cowsweyne area, where Al Shabaab claimed they killed many Somali troops. 

The unmistakable message from today's press conference is clear: the war on terror demands unity, not division, from the ranks of the government and the community.
