Somalia: Farmajo arrives in Adado as part of regional tour

ADADO, Somalia - Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his delegation arrived in Adado, the interim administrative headquarters of Galmudug state on Monday evening, Garowe Online reports.

On arrival, President Farmajo received a warm welcome from Galmudug President Ahmed Dualle Geelle Haaf, Federal and regional MPs as well as jubilant residents clad in the Somali National and State flags.

Farmajo arrived in the town by land from Galkayo, the regional capital of Mudug province, where has spent a two-day visit to south and north of the divided city, the final leg of his historic trip to Puntland.

The overall security of Adado in central Somalia been extremely tightened by regional security forces backed Federal presidential guards ahead of the President's arrival.

During his stay, Farmajo will hold talks with regional leaders, politicians and civil society members as part of his reconciliation trip to Somalia's central regions beset by conflict and divisions in the past.

The President is scheduled to proceed to Dhusamareeb, the regional capital of Galgadud which is under the control of Ahlu Sunna, an armed moderate Islamist group agreed on a power-share deal with Galmudug.

Sources tell GO that President Farmajo will open a meeting aimed at finalizing the recent IGAD-brokered agreement signed between the two sides, ending their long-running rivalry and feud.

This was the longest ever tour by Farmajo since he was elected as the 9th President of the Horn of Africa country by the Federal Parliament members on 8th February 2017 in Mogadishu.
