President Farmajo joins leaders discussing the evolution of the situation in Sudan and the conflict Libya that is hosted by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who is also this year's chairman of the AU.

Reports from Cairo indicated that the meeting is attended by leaders from Chad, Djibouti, Rwanda, Congo, Somalia, and South Africa who will seek political solution for Sudanese and Libyan turmoil.

According to a statement from the presidency, Farmajo will hold separate meeting with AU leaders and Sudanese delegation on the sidelines of the conference to show his stance on Somalia’s support for Sudan.

The summit is the first to be convened by African leaders on the current crises in Sudan and Libya.

For Sudan, the objective “is to discuss … the most appropriate ways to address the evolution of the situation and to contribute to stability and peace”, Egypt’s presidency said in a statement.

For Libya the focus will be on “re-launching a political process… (and) the elimination of terrorism”, the statement added.

The African Union (AU) on 15 April threatened to suspend Sudan if the military does not hand over power within 15 days of that date to a civilian authority.
