Somalia: Farmajo returns home after Egypt visit

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has returned back home Sunday after attending an African Business Forum 2017 held in Egypt's coastal city of Sharm El Sheikh, Garowe Online reports.

Upon arrival at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu, President Farmajo and his entourage were cordially welcomed by Federal Ministers, Members of Somali Parliament and other high-ranking government officials.

On the sidelines of the Africa Business Summit, Somali President held bilateral talks with several heads of state to further strengthen ties with countries as part of the government’s conscious effort to intensify engagement with Africa.

The two-day summit is held under the theme, ‘Driving Investment for Inclusive Growth’, with attendance of six Heads of State and Government, as well as dozens of top industry captains and delegates from across Africa aiming at increasing intra-African investments and cross-border collaboration.

In a Twitter post, President Farmajo said his Government is committed to improving the investment environment and economic reforms to create the Win-Win situation all stakeholders would benefit from.

This was the second visit by Somali President to Egypt since August.

Farmajo left behind members of his delegation, including Foreign Minister Yusuf Garad Omar who is attending Arab foreign ministers' emergency meeting in Cairo.

The Arab League meeting, which brings together foreign ministers from member-states is designed to formulate a unified response to Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
