Somalia: Female journalist killers executed in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia-Federal Government of Somalia’s military court has executed two men convicted of being Al Shabaab members for the killing of female journalist late Hindiyo Haji, Garowe Online reports. 

The execution carried out by firing squad took place at the square of Mogadishu police academy, where blindfolded killers are tied to poles.  

The two--Abdirizak Mohamed Barow and Hassan Nur Farah—were handed a death sentence by the military court. 

Female journalist Hindiyo died of her injuries after a bomb planted beneath her seat went off on Dec. 3, 2015. She was working for the state-run station, Radio Mogadishu. 

On February 25, the military court issued sentences ranging from death to life imprisonment; however life sentence verdict was ditched for death on March 20. 

Former Al Shabaab journalist Hassan Hanafi has been sentenced to death for his alleged role in the killing of media workers.
