Somalia Govt expresses hope about resumption of talks with Somaliland

MOGADISHU, Somalia, March 28, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia has expressed hope about the resumption of bilateral talks with breakaway Somaliland region as the separatist administration has set international presence condition for future gatherings, Garowe Online reports.
In an interview with state-run station, Radio Mogadishu Minister for Interior Abdirahman Mohamed Hussein insisted that there is no place for third party in the talks between Federal Government and Somaliland.
“Why do we need others [third party to mediate between Somalia Federal Government and Somaliland]?” raised Hussein.” We are ready to talk to each other,” he went on, adding that Somalia does not need external actors to get involved in the domestic negotiations.
The remarks by the Interior Minister follow pre-conditions set by Somaliland Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Bihi Yonis for the dialogue ten days ago.
Turkey-brokered bilateral talks in Istanbul broke down in late February after Somaliland refused to okay the presence of what it claimed ‘Somaliland-born’ mediating members.
In December 2014, at Djibouti talks, both sides agreed on the resumption of the bilateral talks.
