Somalia: Gunmen kill official in the capital Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- A local district official has been shot dead by suspected Al Shabaab gunmen in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Wednesday evening, Garowe Online reports. 

Late Hassan Mohamed Takow, was an official in Yaqshid district, killed outside a mosque near his house at Sahan neighborhood after prayer, Police said. 

"Two men armed with pistols have gunned down Takow as he left a mosque and heading to his house on Wednesday evening following the Maghrib prayer," said Cabdi Warsame, a local resident. 

According to the resident, the gunmen managed to escape from the scene before the arrival of the Somali security forces. However, no group has yet claimed the responsibility of the assassination in the capital.

Mogadishu has witnessed numerous targeted killings against security forces, traditional elders and government officials carried out by unknown gunmen, with Al Shabaab claiming part of the attacks. 

The new Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has pledged to tackle Insecurity and restore order to a country that has endured decades of internal conflict fueled by clan rivalries and extremist insurgency.
