MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia welcomed a message of support from the Egyptian government on Sunday, which expressed solidarity with the Somali people, particularly in efforts to enhance security and national stabilization.

In a statement, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it values Egypt’s continued backing, describing it as a reflection of the “historic and deep-rooted ties” between the two countries.

“The message from Egypt comes at a critical time as Somalia accelerates its campaign to restore peace, security, and rule of law across the country,” the ministry said.

Egypt’s support includes the provision of military equipment and training for the Somali armed forces. Cairo is also expected to contribute troops to the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), replacing the outgoing ATMIS operation, in what Somali officials call a vital boost to ongoing security efforts.

The Foreign Ministry added that Egypt’s sustained engagement highlights a shared commitment to regional peace and the long-standing cooperation between the two nations.
