Somalia: Joint forces seize weapons in security raids in Mogadisu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- The joint security forces in the Somali capital of Mogadishu have seized large quantity of weapons during home raids in both Wadajir and Shangani districts on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

The security sweep is part of the “Stabilization Mission” that joint forces is conducting to enforce security in the capital Mogadishu. Earlier the Somali Federal government has announced security measures to counter surge of attacks by suspected al-Shabaab militants hiding in neighborhoods in Mogadishu.

The Prime Minister Hasan Ali Khayre and Information Minister Abdirahman Omar Osman “Yarisow” visited the temporary base for the joint forces located in Wardhigley district, to commend the forces on their successful mission today.

The mission resulted in the capture of large cashes of weapons, drugs and military uniform, and according to the security officials, some of the seized weapons belongs to the government, as suspects replaced the serial numbers to sell in the market. 

PM Khayre commended the security forces and urged the public to collaborate with the government and government forces to improve the security in the capital.

The joint security forces are withdrawn from the Police forces, Intelligence agency and national army, and tasked to stabilize the capital ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
