Somalia: Kenyan jets strike Al Shabaab bases again

JILIB, Somalia Oct 11,2014 (Garowe Online)-As Somali army troops alongside African Union peacekeepers are dealing severe setbacks to beleaguered Al Shabaab militants, Kenyan fighter jets again struck Al Shabaab bases near Middle Juba regional district of Jilib of southern Somalia, Garowe Online reports.

Jilib residents who asked to remain anonymous told GO that several airstrikes hit militant hideouts and vehicles on Saturday. 

Kenya Defence Force (KDF) that holds command of AMISOM's sector two said in a press statement that 60 Al Shabaab fighters died in the strikes against hideouts in nearby Bulo-gadud: "Initial battle assessment indicates that 60 Al-Shabaab militants have been killed in the attack".

On October 2, Kenyan warplanes pummeled Al Shabaab bases in the outskirts of the agriculture-rich town of Jilib.

Somalia’s Federal Government announced USD 2 million-bounty on the head of new Al Shabaab leader Abu Ubayda.

Last week, Jubaland President Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) announced intense military campaign, calling on those who are fighting alongside Al Shabaab to surrender ahead of the onslaught.
