​Somalia: Kenyan military says killed 31 Al shabaab militants Somalia

NAIROBI, Somalia- Kenya's Ministry of Defense said at least 31 Al Shabaab fighters were killed by Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) during a raid on two camps in Badhadhe town in Lower Jubba region on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Kenyan forces serving with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have launched a successful operations against two Al Shabaab command and logistics bases in Badhadhe district, killing dozens militants.

Kenyan officials said in a statement that ground forces supported by helicopters raided Al Shabaab camps in the town following military intelligence report.

KDF said 31 militants died in the attack, while others fled with injures, the statement read. There was no immediate confirmation of the casualties on Kenyan soldiers.

Kenyan forces also seized 11 AK-47 rifles, four IEDs, 634 rounds of assorted ammunition, communication equipment and other military hardware during the operation against Al Shabaab bases in Somalia.

Al Shabaab, however did not comment on the attack claim on its camps in Bardhadhe town of Jubbaland, and the deaths of the militants.

Kenya has contributed 5,000 soldiers to AMISOM in 2012, to fight against Al shabaab group which carried out series of attacks in its soil, including Westgate Mall and Garissa University.
