MOGADISHU, Somalia- A landmine explosion at the outskirts of the Somali capital of Mogadishu has left at least three Somali military soldiers wounded on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

An eyewitness confirmed the explosion and said a remote-controlled bomb has struck through a military convoy belonging to the Somali National Army (SNA), causing damages to the vehicles and causalities.

"The military convoy was en-route to the capital Mogadishu before it was attacked by IED in the highway connecting Afgoye to Mogadishu," he added.

Following the attack, al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab group has immediately claimed responsibility of the attack through its affiliated media outlets.

However, officials from the Somali military forces and Federal government are yet to comment on the attack that targeted the military forces near Mogadishu.

The militants group has previously vowed to topple the western-backed Somali government in Mogadishu and been waging sporadic attacks against the security forces and allied African Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
