MOGADISHU, Somalia, September 26, 2015(Garowe Online)-Federal Parliament Speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman (Jawari) has suspended a no confidence motion in President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, drawing stiff rejection from proponents on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Speaker Jawari said in a statement from his office that the impeachment motion is no longer binding for debate, urging backers and challengers including Mohamud to gather for roundtable meeting on solution to the political impasse.

On account of political stability and functioning institutions, national assembly speaker noted that he decided to heed calls by overwhelming majority of lawmakers, who want that amicable means be used to put the crisis to an end.

President Mohamud, Parliament Speaker and Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmake will meet backers of impeachment motion on 7th of October, the statement added.

MP Abdullahi Godah Barre, motion proponent slammed the suspension, saying they will continue clinging to the motion.

In an interview with BBC Somali Service, Barre, a fierce critic of Mohamud and former ally rejected the statement by House Speaker ,and deemed it ‘meaningless’.

On August 12, over 90 Members of Parliament lodged the impeachment motion with Jawari, and accused Mohamud of a host of issues including treason, constitutional violations and corruption.
