Somalia: National Leadership Forum is unconstitutional, says Jawari

MOGADISHU, Somalia- The elected Speaker of newly inaugurated Federal Parliament, Mohamed Osman Jawari has dismissed claims that he took part in the conference with Somalia’s National Leadership Forum (NLF) that opposed the controversial no-confidence motion taken against Galmudug President, Garowe Online reports.

Recently, Somali leaders have held a conference over the phone and released a communiqué urging to end the political differences between state assembly and Galmudug interim administration.

However, Parliament Speaker Jawari criticized the NLF who he called “invalid” and “unconstitutional”.    

“Clarification, NLF is no longer valid and unconstitutional. I did not participate in a meeting by phone regarding Galmudug Parliament,” Jawari said in a Twitter post.   

Leaders of Somali Federal government-term ended in September 10- and regional states have called Galmudug officials to end deadlock through dialogue to avoid political crisis in the country amid ongoing election and drought.

On the other hand, jawari called to resolve dispute between state stakeholders, saying “I am calling for and urged Galmudug state stakeholders leaders to resolve difference through dialogue and respect Galmudug constitution.”

International community has expressed concerned to the no-confidence motion that removed President Galmudug from office and called to resolve underlying issues and refrain from resorting to any acts of violence in the country.

This comes amid preparation to conclude the election of parliamentary leadership, as new lawmakers of Lower and Upper Houses are set to vote for the new Somali President.
