Somalia: New areas liberated from Al Shabaab control

HUDUR, Somalia-Somali troops have wrested control of three villages in Bakool region of southwestern Somalia on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports. 

Southwest State administration forces conducted the cleanup operations near Bakool regional capital of Hudur.

“Operations are ongoing, and the troops are now in Abaqbedey village and nearby ones. 

Those villages were a springboard for Al Shabaab,” said the Mayor of Hudur, Mohamed Moalim. 

On Tuesday, Somali National Army commander claimed that 20 militants were killed after botched raid on Daynunay military base. 

Overnight on Tuesday, Somali Member of Parliament Adan Ibrahim Dhayow survived an attempt on his life after assailants launched grenade attack on his residence in Mogadishu’s Hodon district.  

Four bodyguards sustained injuries in the terror attack. 

Al Shabaab have claimed suicide attacks and targeted assassinations, largely in Mogadishu.
