Somalia: New Bari governor takes office

BOSSASO, Somalia, May 31, 2015 (Garowe Online)-New Bari Governor Yusuf Mohamed Waeys Dhedo has taken office at well-organized ceremony in the Gulf of Aden Port city of Bossaso on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Outgoing Bari Governor Abdisamad Mohamed Galan has pledged that he would closely work with his successor whom Puntland President named by decree last Wednesday.

In attendance were Puntland Interior Minister Ahmed Elmi Osman (Ahmed Karash), traditional leaders and civil society members.

Galan indicated in his farewell speech at Ga’eyte hotel that much has been achieved under his watch and many tasks are ahead for the newly appointed Governor.

On his side, Dhedo thanked for the handover of oath, saying he will lend efforts to his promises.

On May 27, President Ali announced administrative shakeup anticipated for a week.

Many challenges including terror campaign honed by Al Shabaab militants are waiting for the new Governor of Puntland’s most populous region.
