Somalia: PM Khayre meets Norway’s Foreign Minister in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- The Prime Minister of Somalia Hasan Ali Khayre has received Norway’s Foreign Minister Børge Brende in his office during a visit to Mogadishu on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

The Norwegian delegate was warmly welcomed by Somali top government officials in Villa Somalia before holding meeting in PM’s office. Somali Foreign Minister and State Minister of Presidency also took part in the meeting.

During the talks, PM Khayre discussed with the delegate about the bilateral relation between the two countries and commended Norway’s role to take part in the efforts to rebuild the nation.

Khayre highlighted the importance of international community’s support including Norway to stabilize the country, build institutions and tackle various challenges. He said the current government has managed to achieve significant progress during the past months.

“Norwegian Foreign Minister’s visit shows us the progress the country has achieved in the past 4 months, which drew the attention of the international community. We have discussed many issues important to our country,” said Khayre.     

On his side, Brende thanked the Somali Federal government for the warm hospitality in Mogadishu, and noted the visit has focused on strengthening bilateral relation between Somalia and Norway.

He said the Somali Federal government has made considerable progress in the past short period and reiterated his government support to Somalia to ensure momentum in the areas of security, rebuilding the nation and governance.  

Following the meeting, Brende held further meeting with the President of Somali Federal government Mohamed Abdulahi Mohamed Farmajo in his office in Villa Somalia.The two officials discussed wide range of issues including bilateral relations and support to the Federal government.
