Somalia PM meets with Trump's National Security Adviser

WASHINGTON, USA - John Bolton, the national security adviser of U.S. president Donald Trump, has met with Somali Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Khaire in Washington DC on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

During the meeting, Bolton and Khaire discussed ways to deepen the strong U.S partnership with Somalia on critical issues, including counterterrorism, the fight against Al-Shabaab and regional stability.

The U.S. security adviser said in a Twitter post that he has congratulated the visiting Somali PM on his country’s economic reforms and urged sustained engagement on this front.

For his part, the premier expressed gratitude to Bolton for the warm welcome in Washington and the excellent discussion on the US support for Somalia in defeating terrorism and to rebuild the nation.

Bolton was the first high-ranking figure in president Trump's inner circle that Somali PM is meeting during his visit to the United States, which mainly based on for talks with IMF and World Bank officials.

The American military has escalated a battle against the Al-Shabab, an extremist group affiliated with Al Qaeda, in Somalia since Trump came to office in early 2017.

The Prime minister also met with David Malpass on his first day as World Bank President and updated him of Somalia's dazzling progress on economic reforms as the country seeks debt relief and reengagement.
