Somalia: Police foils bomb plot in the capital, taxman kills civilians

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Police authorities were reported to have foiled a landmine bomb plot at a local restaurant in Howlwadag district in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

According to sources, the bomb was planted in the area overnight, and is believed it aimed to target district’s Policemen and taxmen who are frequent visitors to the restaurant.

However, Police said it received information of possible terror plot in the area and managed to neutralize the threat before it caused civilian causalities.  

In a separate incident in the capital, a taxman officer has killed two civilians in a local market in Wadajir district in Mogadishu on Monday, according to eyewitnesses.

The taxman is identified as Saed Gurey and reported he shot dead two shop owners in the market, following dispute over tax payments, sources added.

Consequently, the Police authorities have arrived the scene and launched investigations into the killing of two men, but sources couldn’t confirm if the suspect was apprehend or he fled the scene.

On the other hand, Somali government officials haven’t released a statement in relation to both incidents in the capital.

Recently, Mogadishu city has witnessed surge in the attacks amid the preparation to host the elections of new Parliament Speakers and Somali President in January 2017.
