Somalia: President Farmajo opens second Senate session in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has officially opened the second session of the Upper House chamber of Federal Parliament in Mogadishu, Garowe Online reports.

The speakers of the Lower House Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari, diplomats, high-ranking government officials and senators have attended the opening ceremony held in the senate’s HQ in the capital.

During his speech, President Farmajo has urged the senators to work hand in hand, in a bid to realize the goals of the Somali people whom they representing and lead the country towards prosperity.

The President underscored that the senate has a daunting task ahead, including the review of the draft constitution, the bile of the power-sharing between Federal government and the regional administrations.

“You [Senators] are the hope of the people to move the country out of the political turmoil and lay the foundation of stable governance,” said Somali President while addressing the Senate.

Finally, President Farmajo has called on both Lower and Upper houses of the Federal Parliament to work together put aside the clan and personnel based interests and mediate row in the constitutional review process.
