Somalia: President Hassan boasts about progress in war on terror

MOGADISHU, Somalia Sept 28, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Sunday arrived in Mogadishu after a week-long visit to the US for the UN General Assembly, Garowe Online reports.

In advance of press briefing at the heavily fortified compound of Villa Somalia, Prime Minister Abdweli Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari, cabinet ministers and Federal MPs received Mohamud at Adan Adde International Airport where he inspected guard of honor by national armed forces unit.

“We have realized that the world is ready to stand by Somalia. Our international partners hailed the latest progresses in the country, particularly the world believes that Somalia is today moving forward, for instance we are rebuilding the nation and tight security is in place,” said Mohamud during his news conference on return from UNGA.

“The world also commended the current global war on upsurge in extremism and anti peace elements. Somalia is the only country which is in progress since terrorists are expanding in the other parts of world but we are gaining grounds against them,” he added.

President Mohamud emphasized that Somalia government alongside the people remained committed to restoring governance across the lawless country.

Somali Government troops aided by African Union forces dislodged Al Shabaab from vast areas acquiesced to the Islamist rule in south-central regions.
