MOGADISHU, Somalia, September 20, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has expressed hope about the future role of separatist Somaliland administration in political transition in 2016 at ongoing Mogadishu forum, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking at a gathering that brought together national leadership, Puntland, Jubaland, Southwest State and Galmudug leaders as well as representatives from UN, AU and IGAD, Mohamud wished that Somaliland can be part of electoral process.

He said, his administration is working on plans to provide political space to the breakaway region.

On Turkey-brokered talks between Somalia’s Federal Government and Somaliland, Mohamud appeared confident of resumption of another round of dialogue sooner.

Delegations representing the two sides were previously hosted in the Turkish city of Istanbul for discussions on possible thaw in relations and Somaliland’s bid for independence.

Somaliland, located in northwestern Somalia declared its independence from the rest of the country as a de facto sovereign state in 1991 but it has not been recognized internationally yet.
