Somalia President meets new UN envoy

MOGADISHU, Somalia, January 19, 2016 (Garowe Online)- Federal Government of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has for the first time met with new United Nations envoy Michael Keating in Mogadishu, Garowe Online reports.

Mohamud briefed Mr. Keating on the latest developments in security and political fronts as country is preparing for tough transition by 2016.

UN Somalia envoy on his side expressed his pleasure and optimism with the new area ahead of Somalia.

Keating is replacing his British predecessor Ambassador Nicholas Kay who had been at the helm for the UN for two years and half.

The nomination coincides with a critical time when the country’s political leaders are deciding on model for electoral transition.
