DHUUSAMAREEB, Somalia — Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Karie “Qoor Qoor” has praised Puntland for its cooperation with Galmudug, particularly in maintaining peace and security in the divided city of Galkayo.

Qoor Qoor made the remarks on Friday during celebrations in Dhusamareb marking the anniversary of Galmudug’s establishment, which were attended by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. He commended Puntland’s leadership and residents for working with Galmudug authorities to preserve peace in Galkayo.

He said cooperation between the two neighboring administrations had helped strengthen mutual understanding and stability in the city, which is divided between Galmudug and Puntland. Qoor Qoor described Galkayo as a unique example of how cooperation between Somalia’s federal member states can contribute to peace.

The Galmudug president also expressed hope that ongoing political disagreements between the two administrations would not undermine their security cooperation. He urged both sides to maintain their collaboration and continue efforts to stabilize central Somalia.

His comments come amid renewed tensions between Galmudug and Puntland over political and security issues in Mudug. Puntland officials have recently accused the federal government of attempting to undermine its security, while Galmudug and Puntland have continued to cooperate in parts of Galkayo and on security matters.
