AFGOYE, Somalia- Roadside blasts were reported to rip through an army convoy carrying AMISOM troops in southern Somalia in Saturday as they drove along a strategic road near Afgoye town, Garowe Online reports.

Four soldiers from the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM) are feared dead, after their convoy was hit by a roadside bomb as it passed Adow Dibile village en-route to Shalanbod town in Lower Shabelle region.

However, another AMISOM convoy was targeted in a blast caused by remote-controlled landmine at KM-50 area, but no casualties reported. Residents said AU troops clashed with Al Shabaab fighters after the explosion.

The terror group Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a statement posted on its affiliated online website, Al Qaida-linked militants said they used a remote controlled landmine to attack the AMISOM forces and killed at least four AU soldiers.

AMISOM did not comment on the deadly IED attacks, which was the latest in series of ambushes by the militant on the AU and Somali National Army convoys in south and central Somalia.
