Somalia's army kills 2 terrorists, nab 4 others in southern region

MOGADISHU -- Somali National Army (SNA) elite forces, Danab, said Thursday its forces killed two al-Shabab militants and arrested four others during a sting operation conducted in the southern part of the country.

The SNA commanders who led not fled the operation villages in the Lower Juba region told the Somali News Agency that the elite forces backed by the Jubaland Security Forces destroyed al-Shabab vehicles which have been used to stage attacks in the region.

The SNA commanders said weapons and explosive devices were also seized during the latest security operations

"The military operations were carried out in Berhani, Qudus, Dharkeyn-urur, and Barjella areas west of Kismayo town," the state-owned media reported.

The military officials said its troops also destroyed al-Shabab's explosion command center in Lower Jubba.

The al-Qaida allied group has not commented on the latest military onslaught by government soldiers.

The SNA which has intensified security operations across the country has vowed to sustain the onslaught against the militant group until their fighters are subdued.

However, the al-Shabab group which still controls some parts of rural southern and central Somalia continues to carry out high-profile attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere.
